Preparing for Japan's Next Major Disaster

Advisors to the foundation's Board Dr. Robert Eldridge and Grant Newsham teamed up along with Andrew R. MacMannis to collaborate on their respective insights and lessons learned from the HADR and disaster response to Japan's Fukushima and Great Tohoku earthquake disaster--which the authors were actively involved in.

Their recent book discusses the necessity of greater civil-military cooperation, especially between U.S. forces in Japan and local governments, in preparation for the next major disaster in this country. It makes recommendations on the way forward for bilateral disaster cooperation, and introduces the efforts made over the past decade by the leading proponent of such approaches, as well as the testimony of U.S. Marine Corps leadership directly involved in the U.S. response to the March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
