Ala Wai Watershed Restoration Project

The Hawaii Exemplary State Foundation has released a video overview of the Ala Wai Watershed Restoration Project to coincide with the return of the Polynesian Voyaging Society's Hawaii based canoe Hōkūle`a. Risk Mitigation Advisor Major General (Ret.) Darryll Wong, a Director of the Hawaii Exemplary State Foundation, is featured in the video.

Major General (Ret.) Darryll Wong 2017 Recipient of The Kekumano Noblesse Oblige Award

This year, the coveted Kekumano Award given by Maryknoll School in Honolulu was given to Major General (Ret.) Darryll Wong, a Risk MItigation Foundation Advisor and the CEO of its affiliated, Disaster non-profit organization. The Award celebrates and perpetuates the spirit of service to others and giving back to the community in fulfillment of Maryknoll's motto of Noblesse Oblige – to whom much is given, much is expected.

Afghanistan's Pioneer in Muslim Women's Education

Dr. Azizzulah Amir is a Risk Mitigation Advisor and a cardiologist based in Kabul, Afghanistan. Last year, Amir opened the first, the largest, and the most unique educational complex of its kind for women in the history of Afghanistan, the Moraa Educational Complex (MEC).

"One of the main causes of the long lasting conflict and violence in Afghanistan is lack of education and specifically lack of education for women. Women have long been marginalized and deprived from access to education. Children of educated mothers are very less likely to join terrorist organizations and destroy their own country." - Aziz Amir                                                                                                                                ​

The Moraa Educational Complex (MEC), located in 42,000 square meter area in Kabul, includes a well-equipped modern nursery, kindergarten, high school, midwifery school (midwifery, nursing, medical technology, anesthesia, radiology, pharmacy, dentistry, physiotherapy), university (medicine, computer science, BBA and education), a multi-specialty hospital (to be built) and a dormitory having capacity of 960 students (female only).

This video is of the formal ribbon-cutting ceremony opening of MEC attended by Her Excellency the First Lady of Afghanistan, Rula Ghani along with the Ministers of Education and Higher Education. Aziz is in a dark suit and tie to the left of the First Lady (in green with sunglasses).

Kerry Gershaneck, was asked about his expert perspective on Thailand's "coup" in this television broadcast.

 

Prof. Kerry Gershaneck, a member of the Board of Advisors for the Risk Mitigation Hub of the Alliance, is also The Distinguished Visiting Professor at Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy,  and a Senior Research Associate at the Thammasat University Faculty of Law 'German Southeast Asia Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance' in Bangkok. Kerry is the the single foreign professor/instructor at Thailand's West Point equivalent (Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy).

 

Prof. Gershaneck is also a Senior Associate at Pacific Forum CSIS.
