The Foundation's Director for North Asia, Dr. Robert Eldridge has released a new book entitled, "Okinawa and the U.S. Marine Corps: Selected Commentaries, Observations, and Recommendations, 1998-2018."

Dr. Eldridge, an award-winning scholar, is considered one of the world's leading specialists on Okinawa. His expertise regarding the Marine Corps and Okinawa spans a twenty-year period from 1998 to last year. Eldridge served as the deputy assistant chief of staff for Government and External Affairs, Marine Corps Installations Pacific, in Okinawa, Japan from 2009-2015, after a tenured position at Osaka University as an associate professor of U.S.-Japan Relations and International Public Policy. The book spans three periods of his career--as an academic (1998-2009), a civilian official and political advisor for the Marines (2009-2015), and as a public intellectual (2015-2018).

In addition to previously published articles, the book includes never before published writings as well as translations from the Japanese.

The book is a must for those interested in contemporary Okinawa and the U.S. military's place in the U.S.-Japan alliance.
