In 1960, a massive agro-industrial project in Mexico was implemented without consulting local residents. The project ended in failure. In 1975, a similar Mexican agro-industrial project began. Unlike the first project, this project incorporated an extensive communications component, using videos and audio recordings that were played back to the communities. The 1975 project succeeded, thanks in part to the community-based audiovisual communication methods used.

One of the major challenges that every project or assessment faces is the need to develop effective communication methods. Recognizing these challenges, the Global Risk Mitigation Foundation and Genesis Films have formed a strategic partnership to develop audio-visual assets such as video and film as an integral part of a holistic communications solution for GRM projects. These assets support risk identification and stakeholder collaboration, and facilitate the development of community-based projects.
